About: After studying chemistry at Aberdeen University, Seb Jones returned home to Moray to create a beer for guests at his Mother’s 60th birthday party. The brew impressed someone at the event so much that he suggested he should start a brewery. After 18 months fundraising, planning, researching and training, Speyside Craft Brewery opened for business in November 2012.

The early days were single-handed, 24/7 brewing, selling, planning and marketing. Since then it has gone from strength to strength and the Speyside Craft Brewery is now an award winning craft brewery. Set in Moray Speyside, the heart of Scotland’s malt whisky country, the water used for brewing Seb’s beers is the same water used for the iconic malts.

Having established a reputation for quality and a strong association with the world-renowned Speyside brand, the company also exploits 28 year old Seb’s youthful persona in its marketing. The ‘against the grain’ strapline can mean something different to everyone, but for the brand it refers to Seb’s choice of passion over industry as a career and the use of grain in Speyside for something other than distilling.
